Overview

The multivalent bcr-abl peptide vaccine is a therapeutic cancer vaccine developed by Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center (MSKCC) for the treatment of chronic myelogenous leukemia (CML). It consists of six synthetic peptides derived from the unique amino acid sequences of the bcr-abl oncogene breakpoint fusion region, which serves as a tumor-specific antigen characteristic of CML. The formulation includes five HLA class I peptides and one HLA class II peptide, totaling 600 μg per dose, combined with 120 μg of the saponin-based adjuvant QS-21 to enhance the immunologic response. The vaccine is designed to stimulate a T-cell mediated immune response against CML cells expressing the bcr-abl fusion protein, particularly in patients with minimal residual disease following other therapies.
