Drug intelligence / Profile preview
The multivalent inactivated COVID-19 vaccine is a next-generation vaccine candidate developed by the Beijing Institute of Biological Products (BIBP), a subsidiary of Sinopharm (China National Biotec Group / CNBG). Utilizing a traditional inactivated virus platform, this vaccine incorporates multiple strains of the SARS-CoV-2 virus—typically including the ancestral strain alongside variants of concern such as Omicron—to elicit a broader and more robust immune response compared to monovalent formulations. By presenting the immune system with whole, chemically inactivated virions, the vaccine induces neutralizing antibodies against the spike protein and other structural proteins. As of the latest pipeline updates, the program is in the preclinical development stage, aimed at addressing the challenge of viral evolution and immune escape.
