Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Multivalent Pneumococcal Vaccine - Formulation 3 is an investigational pneumococcal conjugate vaccine (PCV) developed by Pfizer. It is designed to expand serotype coverage beyond the 20 serotypes included in the currently licensed Prevnar 20 (20vPnC). The vaccine utilizes a conjugate platform where capsular polysaccharides from various *Streptococcus pneumoniae* serotypes are covalently linked to a carrier protein, such as CRM197. This conjugation transforms the T-cell independent polysaccharide antigens into T-cell dependent antigens, which are necessary for inducing robust immune responses, high-affinity antibodies, and immunological memory in adults. Formulation 3 is one of several candidates being evaluated in Phase 1/2 clinical trials (e.g., NCT05836922) to optimize the serotype composition and dosage for maximum safety and immunogenicity against invasive pneumococcal disease.
