Multivirus-specific cytotoxic T lymphocytes (mCTL) are a form of adoptive cell therapy in which T cells are collected from donors and expanded or engineered to recognize and target multiple viruses. These cells are typically used to treat or prevent viral infections in immunocompromised patients, such as those who have undergone hematopoietic stem cell transplantation. The mechanism of action involves the direct recognition and killing of virus-infected cells by the infused cytotoxic T lymphocytes that are specific for antigens from several viruses (e.g., CMV, EBV, adenovirus). This approach is being investigated primarily for its safety and efficacy in controlling viral reactivations post-transplant[1].
