The mumps live attenuated vaccine is a prophylactic biological product containing weakened (attenuated) strains of the mumps virus. It is designed to stimulate an immune response that confers protection against future infection by wild-type mumps virus. The attenuation process reduces the virulence of the virus while maintaining its immunogenicity. The most common production method uses primary chicken embryo fibroblasts as cell substrates, though some newer versions use human diploid cells[5][7]. In China and globally, both monovalent (mumps only) and combination vaccines (such as MMR or measles-mumps combined vaccines) are available[1][6][8]. The mechanism of action involves induction of humoral and cellular immunity against the mumps virus through exposure to viral antigens without causing disease[6][7]. Primary indication is prevention of epidemic parotitis (mumps).
