Overview

Mumps virus RIT 4385 strain is a live-attenuated virus used as the mumps component in several vaccines developed by GSK, including Priorix (MMR) and Priorix-Tetra (MMRV). It was derived from the Jeryl Lynn strain, specifically cloned from the JL-5 isolate to ensure genetic stability and consistent immunogenicity. The strain functions by inducing a robust immune response, including the production of neutralizing antibodies and T-cell activation, providing long-term protection against mumps infection. It is manufactured using chicken embryo fibroblast cells and is typically administered as part of a combination vaccine to prevent measles, mumps, and rubella.
