**Mupirocin + benzoyl peroxide** is a topical combination formulation consisting of the antibiotic mupirocin and the antibacterial/keratolytic agent benzoyl peroxide. Mupirocin is a topical antibiotic that works by inhibiting bacterial protein synthesis through reversible binding to bacterial isoleucyl-tRNA synthetase, effectively treating infections caused by susceptible strains of *Staphylococcus aureus* and *Streptococcus pyogenes*, and is widely used in impetigo and other skin infections[10][2][14][12][8]. Benzoyl peroxide acts primarily as an oxidizer that denatures bacterial cell membranes, most notably effective against *Cutibacterium acnes* in acne, as well as having mild keratolytic and anti-inflammatory properties. Benzoyl peroxide is notable for the fact that bacteria do not develop resistance to it[10][9][15].\nThe combination of mupirocin and benzoyl peroxide is designed to harness synergistic antibacterial mechanisms (antibiotic and oxidizing action) and is sometimes considered for complicated skin infections, folliculitis, and acne with secondary infection, although it is not a first-line standard, and clinical data on efficacy are limited[7][11]. This combination is occasionally used in compounded preparations for topical application, but is not available as a widely-approved fixed-dose commercial product.
