The protocol involves the use of two established antimicrobial agents: intranasal mupirocin 2% ointment applied twice daily and a daily chlorhexidine body wash. The regimen is typically administered for five consecutive days prior to the start of radiation therapy and repeated for five days every other week during treatment. By targeting and eliminating *Staphylococcus aureus* colonization in the nares and on the skin—a known risk factor for severe skin toxicity—the intervention aims to reduce the incidence of grade 2 or higher radiation dermatitis and moist desquamation.
