Overview

Muplestim is a recombinant human interleukin-3 (rhIL-3), classified as a pleiotropic colony stimulating factor. It is a protein-based biologic therapy under investigation for its ability to stimulate hematopoiesis by promoting the production, differentiation, and function of granulocytes and macrophages. Muplestim acts via the interleukin 3 receptor (IL3RA/CD123) to regulate blood cell formation. It has been studied in clinical trials for conditions such as cytopenia in HIV-infected patients and hematologic malignancies including multiple myeloma, plasma cell neoplasm, lymphoma, myelodysplastic disorders, and myeloproliferative disorders[1][4][7]. The drug has also been evaluated for sequential administration with sargramostim to accelerate neutrophil and platelet recovery following autologous bone marrow transplantation[2]. Muplestim is not currently approved for any indication.
