Murcidencel is an autologous dendritic cell-based cancer vaccine developed by Masaryk University for the treatment of high-risk pediatric solid tumors, including progressive, recurrent, or metastatic cases. The manufacturing process for murcidencel involves a specialized step to deplete myeloid-derived suppressor cells (MDSCs) from the patient's leukapheresis product before the generation of dendritic cells. MDSCs are known to contribute to an immunosuppressive tumor microenvironment; their removal is intended to enhance the potency and immunostimulatory capacity of the resulting vaccine. The dendritic cells are typically pulsed with tumor-associated antigens, often derived from autologous tumor lysate, to prime the patient's immune system to recognize and mount a T-cell-mediated attack against malignant cells.
