Murine interferon beta (MuIFN-beta) is a recombinant mouse protein that serves as a type I interferon biologic. It is primarily utilized as a research reagent in preclinical mouse models rather than as a human therapeutic. The protein functions by binding to the heterodimeric IFNAR1/IFNAR2 receptor complex on the cell surface, which subsequently activates the JAK-STAT signaling pathway. This activation leads to the transcription of interferon-stimulated genes (ISGs), resulting in antiviral, antiproliferative, and immunomodulatory effects. In laboratory settings, it is used to study viral pathogenesis (e.g., mouse hepatitis virus), autoimmune conditions like experimental autoimmune encephalomyelitis (EAE), and to enhance the efficacy of novel cancer immunotherapies, such as ADAR1 inhibitors, in syngeneic mouse tumor models.
