Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Muscadine Plus (MPX) is a botanical dietary supplement derived from the skins and seeds of the muscadine grape (*Vitis rotundifolia*). It contains a high concentration of bioactive polyphenols, including ellagic acid, quercetin, and resveratrol. MPX is being evaluated in clinical trials, specifically for its ability to slow the doubling time of prostate-specific antigen (PSA) in men with biochemically recurrent prostate cancer following primary therapy. Research suggests that its therapeutic effect may be particularly pronounced in individuals with the Alanine/Alanine (Ala/Ala) genotype of the SOD2 gene, who may be more susceptible to oxidative stress. The supplement is thought to exert its effects through antioxidant mechanisms and the modulation of signaling pathways involved in tumor cell proliferation and inflammation.
