Mushroom-derived hemostatic powder (MHP) is a natural, polysaccharide-based hemostatic agent developed by the Department of Gastroenterology at the Second Affiliated Hospital of Army Medical University (Xinqiao Hospital). Primarily derived from the mushroom *Pleurotus ostreatus*, this powder is designed for endoscopic application to control or prevent gastrointestinal bleeding, particularly following procedures such as gastric polypectomy. Its mechanism of action is primarily physical: upon contact with blood, the powder rapidly absorbs water, which concentrates platelets and clotting factors to accelerate the natural coagulation cascade. Simultaneously, it forms a tenacious, adhesive gel that creates a mechanical barrier over the wound, protecting it from gastric acid and promoting healing. MHP is currently being evaluated in clinical trials for its safety and efficacy in reducing post-polypectomy bleeding and managing other gastrointestinal hemorrhagic conditions.
