Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Mussel oil, often derived from the New Zealand green-lipped mussel (Perna canaliculus), is a natural product rich in omega-3 fatty acids (including EPA, DHA, and ETA), furan fatty acids, glycosaminoglycans, and antioxidants. It is primarily recognized for its anti-inflammatory properties, which are believed to stem from its ability to inhibit inflammatory pathways such as NF-κB, p38MAPK, cyclooxygenase (COX), and lipo-oxygenase (LOX) cascades. It has been investigated for its potential in preventing atherosclerosis and is widely used as a dietary supplement to support joint health, reduce inflammation, and modulate lipid profiles.
