MV-αCD38 is a recombinant oncolytic measles virus (MV-Edm strain) engineered for the treatment of multiple myeloma. It is designed to specifically target CD38-expressing myeloma cells by displaying an anti-CD38 single-chain antibody (scFv) on its hemagglutinin (H) glycoprotein. This modification redirects viral entry through CD38, while the virus retains its intrinsic oncolytic activity, leading to cell-cell fusion and cytopathic effects in targeted cells. The development aims to minimize collateral damage to normal tissues by ablating binding to natural measles virus receptors like CD46 and SLAM.
