MV-012-968 is an intranasally administered, live attenuated respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) vaccine candidate developed by Meissa Vaccines using its proprietary AttenuBlock platform[1][6]. The vaccine is designed to be needle-free and adjuvant-free and aims to protect infants, toddlers, and at-risk older adults from RSV infection[2][3][4]. It works as an immunostimulant by inducing both mucosal (IgA) and circulating antibody responses. The attenuation of the virus was achieved through targeted genetic modifications including codon deoptimization of NS1 and NS2 proteins as well as deletions in G protein regions[8]. Clinical trials have shown that MV-012-968 is well-tolerated with no serious adverse events reported; it induces robust immune responses in RSV-naïve infants and toddlers[2][6]. As of July 2024, the highest development phase reached for this candidate is Phase II for prevention of respiratory syncytial virus infections in children[1].
