MV-CHIK is a recombinant live attenuated vaccine that uses the Schwarz strain of measles virus as a vector to express structural proteins of the chikungunya virus. Upon administration, the measles virus delivers chikungunya antigens directly to antigen-presenting cells such as dendritic cells and monocytes, inducing an immune response characterized by production of neutralizing antibodies against chikungunya. The vaccine has demonstrated good immunogenicity and safety in clinical trials, with robust induction of IgG1 and IgG3 antibodies capable of mediating antibody-dependent cellular cytotoxicity (ADCC) and phagocytosis (ADCP). Developed primarily for prevention of chikungunya fever—a mosquito-borne viral disease—MV-CHIK was created by Themis Bioscience in collaboration with Institut Pasteur[1][4][6][8].
