MV-NICE is a replication-competent, recombinant oncolytic measles virus derived from the Edmonston strain and engineered to express soluble carcinoembryonic antigen and the sodium iodide symporter. It was developed as an experimental treatment for advanced multiple myeloma: viral replication can cause tumor-cell lysis, while sodium iodide symporter expression enables infected cells to concentrate radioiodide. In preclinical studies, exposure to iodine-125 inhibited MV-NICE replication in vitro through localized Auger-electron damage, but this viral-control strategy was not successfully demonstrated in myeloma xenografts in vivo.
