MV-NIS is an attenuated, recombinant oncolytic Edmonston (Ed) strain of the measles virus genetically engineered to express the human thyroidal sodium iodide symporter (NIS). This modification enables the targeted infection and lysis of tumor cells, particularly those overexpressing CD46, a receptor commonly upregulated in certain cancers. The NIS gene allows infected tumor cells to concentrate iodine, which can be used for non-invasive imaging and potentially for radiovirotherapy by delivering radioactive iodine directly to tumors. MV-NIS has demonstrated antitumor activity in preclinical models and early clinical trials for multiple myeloma and ovarian cancer. It is being developed primarily as an investigational therapy for relapsed/refractory cancers[2][3][5][6].
