Overview

MV-NiV is an investigational **live-attenuated measles virus vectored vaccine** being developed by the University of Tokyo for prevention of **Nipah virus infection**. It is a genetically modified measles virus vaccine candidate engineered to express the **Nipah virus attachment glycoprotein G**, with public development materials describing the construct as containing the **Nipah virus G gene from the Malaysia strain**. The intended mechanism is active immunization: the measles vector delivers and expresses the Nipah G antigen to induce **humoral and cellular immune responses**, including neutralizing antibodies against Nipah virus, thereby preventing infection or severe disease. Preclinical studies in hamsters and non-human primates reported protection against lethal Nipah challenge, and the program has advanced into **Phase 1 clinical testing** in healthy adult volunteers in Belgium. Development has involved an international consortium supported by CEPI, with the University of Tokyo leading and organizations including EVI, Batavia Biosciences, Stanford University, and icddr,b participating in translational development activities.
