MV-un-muPA (also known as MV-CD46-muPA) is a dual-targeted oncolytic measles virus (MV) developed by researchers at the University of Miami. It is engineered to simultaneously target human cancer cells via the CD46 receptor and murine stromal cells (such as cancer-associated fibroblasts and endothelial cells) via the murine urokinase-type plasminogen activator receptor (uPAR). By targeting both the tumor cells and the tumor microenvironment/stroma, MV-un-muPA overcomes stromal barriers to enhance viral delivery, replication, and oncolytic efficacy. Preclinical studies in breast and colorectal cancer models have demonstrated that systemic administration of MV-un-muPA significantly delays tumor progression, reduces tumor stroma, and improves survival, particularly when combined with other agents like the prodrug Minnelide.
