MVA + CS + ME-TRAP + AMA1 is an experimental combination malaria vaccine regimen designed to induce immune responses against multiple stages of the Plasmodium falciparum parasite. The components include: - Modified Vaccinia Ankara (MVA) viral vector expressing malaria antigens. - Circumsporozoite protein (CS), a major surface protein of sporozoites. - Multiple Epitope-Thrombospondin Related Adhesion Protein (ME-TRAP), targeting pre-erythrocytic stages. - Apical Membrane Antigen 1 (AMA1), involved in merozoite invasion of red blood cells. The vaccine aims to elicit both humoral and cellular immunity, particularly strong T cell responses, by using viral vectors to deliver these antigens. This multi-antigen, multi-stage approach is intended to provide broader protection than single-antigen vaccines. Clinical studies have shown that similar regimens are safe and immunogenic but have demonstrated only moderate efficacy in highly endemic settings[1][2][3].
