MVA AMA1 vaccine is a recombinant viral-vectored vaccine developed by the University of Oxford's Jenner Institute for the prevention of malaria caused by *Plasmodium falciparum*. The vaccine utilizes a replication-deficient Modified Vaccinia Ankara (MVA) vector to express the ectodomain of the Apical Membrane Antigen 1 (AMA1) from the 3D7 strain of the parasite. AMA1 is a highly conserved protein expressed on the surface of *P. falciparum* merozoites and is essential for the invasion of host erythrocytes. In clinical development, MVA AMA1 is primarily used as a booster component in a heterologous prime-boost regimen, typically following a primary immunization with a chimpanzee adenovirus vector (ChAd63 AMA1). This strategy is designed to elicit potent cellular (T-cell) and humoral (antibody) immune responses to inhibit the blood-stage of the malaria parasite's life cycle. The vaccine is manufactured under GMP conditions by IDT Biologika and has been evaluated in Phase Ia/IIa clinical trials.
