Overview

MVA-BN-HER2 is a recombinant cancer immunotherapy developed by Bavarian Nordic that utilizes the proprietary Modified Vaccinia Ankara - Bavarian Nordic (MVA-BN) viral vector. MVA-BN is a highly attenuated, non-replicating poxvirus that serves as a potent immunogenic vehicle to deliver a modified form of the human epidermal growth factor receptor 2 (HER-2) protein. The vaccine is designed to break immunological tolerance to HER-2, an oncogenic growth factor receptor overexpressed in approximately 20-30% of human breast cancers, thereby stimulating both humoral (antibody) and cellular (T-cell) immune responses against HER-2-positive tumor cells. In clinical evaluations, the product has demonstrated the ability to induce immune responses in a majority of treated patients with metastatic breast cancer while maintaining a favorable safety profile without dose-limiting toxicities.
