Overview

MVA-BN Yellow Fever Vaccine is an investigational yellow fever vaccine candidate that uses the Modified Vaccinia Ankara (MVA) viral vector platform to express the envelope protein of yellow fever virus. Unlike traditional live-attenuated yellow fever vaccines, which are based on the 17D strain, MVA-BN-YF is a non-replicating viral vector vaccine designed to improve safety, particularly for populations with contraindications to live-attenuated vaccines (such as immunocompromised individuals). Preclinical studies in animal models have shown that two doses of MVA-BN-YF can induce neutralizing antibodies and provide protection against lethal yellow fever challenge comparable to the standard 17D vaccine. The vaccine has demonstrated high levels of safety and immunogenicity in early clinical trials[6][8]. It is being developed by Bavarian Nordic in collaboration with NIAID.
