Overview

MVA-CMDR is a candidate HIV-1 vaccine based on a recombinant modified vaccinia Ankara (MVA) viral vector that expresses HIV-1 genes env, gag, and pol derived from the CRF01_AE strain predominant in Thailand. It was developed as part of heterologous prime-boost vaccination strategies for HIV prevention. The vaccine induces both cellular and humoral immune responses, with cell-mediated immunity predominantly involving HIV Env-specific CD4+ T cells and detectable binding antibodies against gp120 and p24. Clinical studies have shown that MVA-CMDR is safe, well-tolerated, immunogenic, and suitable for use as a boost in combination regimens with DNA-based priming vaccines[2][3][4][5].
