Overview

MVA-CN54 is an experimental HIV vaccine candidate based on the Modified Vaccinia Ankara (MVA) viral vector platform. It expresses HIV-1 subtype C (CN54)-derived antigens, specifically the envelope glycoprotein gp120 (Env), as well as Gag, Pol, and Nef polyproteins. The vaccine is designed to induce both cellular and humoral immune responses against HIV-1 by presenting these antigens to the immune system. MVA-CN54 has been evaluated in phase 1 clinical trials as part of prime-boost regimens for prophylactic vaccination against HIV infection[1][3]. The primary developer is Imperial College London[2][3].
