MVA-CS is a recombinant viral vector vaccine candidate developed for the prevention of malaria caused by *Plasmodium falciparum*. It utilizes the Modified Vaccinia virus Ankara (MVA) platform, a highly attenuated strain of vaccinia virus, to deliver and express the full-length circumsporozoite (CS) protein, which is the dominant surface antigen of the malaria sporozoite. MVA-CS is primarily evaluated as part of heterologous prime-boost immunization regimens. In these strategies, it is typically administered as a 'boost' following a 'prime' dose with a different vector, such as a DNA vaccine or a fowlpox virus vector (e.g., FP9-CS). This approach is designed to induce robust cellular immune responses, specifically CD4+ and CD8+ T cells, as well as humoral responses aimed at neutralizing the parasite during the pre-erythrocytic stage of infection.
