Overview

MVA-H5-sfMR is an investigational viral vector-based vaccine developed by the Department of Virology at Erasmus Medical Center in collaboration with the Ludwig Maximilian University of Munich. It utilizes the Modified Vaccinia virus Ankara (MVA) platform, engineered to express the hemagglutinin (HA) gene of the highly pathogenic avian influenza A/H5N1 virus (specifically targeting the A/Vietnam/1194/2004 strain). Administered intramuscularly, the vaccine is designed to prevent highly pathogenic avian influenza A virus infection of the H5N1 subtype. In a Phase 1/2a clinical trial, MVA-H5-sfMR demonstrated a favorable safety profile and induced robust humoral immune responses, which were further enhanced by a booster immunization administered one year after the primary dose.
