Overview

MVA-H5-sfMR is an investigational recombinant viral vector vaccine developed by Erasmus MC (Universitair Medisch Centrum Rotterdam) in collaboration with the Ludwig Maximilian University of Munich for the prevention of highly pathogenic avian influenza A(H5N1). The vaccine utilizes a replication-deficient Modified Vaccinia virus Ankara (MVA) vector platform, grown in serum-free Munich-Rotterdam (sfMR) conditions, to deliver and express the hemagglutinin (HA) antigen of the influenza A/Vietnam/1194/2004 (H5N1, clade 1) virus. In clinical trials, MVA-H5-sfMR has been shown to be well tolerated and immunogenic, inducing robust neutralizing antibody responses against homologous and heterologous H5N1 strains, as well as cross-reactive T-cell responses, making it a promising candidate for pandemic influenza preparedness.
