MVA-Hanta is an investigational viral vector vaccine based on the Modified Vaccinia Ankara (MVA) platform. It incorporates a chimeric nucleoprotein antigen derived from Seoul orthohantavirus (SEOV) and Hantaan orthohantavirus (HTNV). Developed by the University Hospital Southampton NHS Foundation Trust, the vaccine is designed to prevent hantavirus disease, specifically Haemorrhagic Fever with Renal Syndrome (HFRS). The vaccine works by inducing both humoral and cellular immune responses against the hantavirus nucleoprotein. It is currently being evaluated in a Phase I dose-escalation clinical trial to assess safety and immunogenicity in healthy adult volunteers.
