MVA-MAGEA3 is a therapeutic cancer vaccine candidate that uses a Modified Vaccinia Ankara (MVA) viral vector to deliver the melanoma-associated antigen A3 (MAGE-A3) to the immune system. The vaccine is designed to stimulate an immune response specifically against tumor cells expressing the MAGE-A3 protein, which is commonly found in various cancers, including non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC). By presenting harmless parts of the MAGE-A3 protein via the viral vector, MVA-MAGEA3 aims to train the immune system to recognize and attack cancer cells displaying this antigen. It is typically used as part of a heterologous prime-boost regimen in combination with other vaccines such as ChAdOx1-MAGEA3-NYESO and sometimes with standard-of-care chemotherapy and checkpoint inhibitors[4][5][6]. The vaccine has been developed for use in first-line treatment settings for NSCLC and potentially other solid tumors expressing MAGE-A3.
