MVA-Mosaic is a candidate HIV vaccine based on the Modified Vaccinia Ankara (MVA) viral vector platform. It is designed as a "mosaic" vaccine to induce broad immune responses against diverse strains of HIV by encoding synthetic antigens that represent global HIV-1 diversity. The primary mechanism of action is immunostimulation—eliciting both antibody and T-cell responses to prevent or control HIV infection. The vaccine has been developed for use in both prevention and therapeutic settings for HIV infections. Development has involved clinical trials in multiple countries including the USA, Uganda, Thailand, South Africa, and Rwanda[2][5]. The originator was Crucell Holland; current development is led by Janssen Vaccines and Prevention B.V., with collaboration from Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center[2].
