Overview

MVA MSP1 is an investigational viral-vectored vaccine developed by the University of Oxford's Jenner Institute for the prevention of malaria caused by *Plasmodium falciparum*. It utilizes a replication-deficient Modified Vaccinia Virus Ankara (MVA) vector to deliver the merozoite surface protein 1 (MSP1) antigen, a major blood-stage target. The vaccine is typically administered as a booster in a heterologous prime-boost regimen following a priming dose of ChAd63 MSP1. It is designed to elicit both cellular (CD4+ and CD8+ T-cell) and humoral (IgG) immune responses against the parasite. Clinical evaluation has progressed through Phase I/IIa trials, often in combination or co-administration with other vectored vaccines targeting antigens like AMA1 and ME-TRAP.
