MVA-OVA is a recombinant viral vector vaccine based on the Modified Vaccinia virus Ankara (MVA) strain, specifically engineered to express the model tumor antigen ovalbumin (OVA). Developed using the MVA-BN backbone from Bavarian Nordic, it serves as a potent immunotherapy tool that triggers the cGAS-STING pathway to induce type I interferon responses and activate tumor-specific CD8+ T-cell immunity. In preclinical studies, it is frequently used to evaluate the efficacy of viral immunotherapy in melanoma and lung carcinoma models, often in combination with pharmacological inhibitors like statins to modulate the innate immune response and enhance lymphocyte infiltration into the tumor microenvironment.
