MVA-P1A is an experimental cancer vaccine consisting of a recombinant Modified Vaccinia Ankara (MVA) viral vector engineered to express the P1A tumor-associated antigen. P1A is a well-characterized murine embryonic-type antigen, functionally analogous to the human MAGE family, which is expressed in various mouse tumors (such as the P815 mastocytoma) but absent in normal adult tissues except for the testis. The vaccine is designed to induce a robust and specific CD8+ T-cell immune response against tumor cells presenting the P1A antigen. Developed primarily by the Ludwig Institute for Cancer Research, MVA-P1A serves as a critical tool in preclinical immuno-oncology research for evaluating the efficacy of viral vector-based immunotherapy, studying T-cell dynamics, and exploring synergistic combinations with checkpoint inhibitors or other adjuvants.
