Overview

MVA-SARS-2-ST is a recombinant vector vaccine candidate for COVID-19. It uses the Modified Vaccinia Virus Ankara (MVA) as a viral vector to deliver a prefusion-stabilized form of the SARS-CoV-2 spike protein antigen. The stabilization of the spike protein in its prefusion conformation enhances immunogenicity, leading to stronger neutralizing antibody and T cell responses compared to earlier versions encoding the native spike protein. Preclinical and clinical studies have shown that vaccination with MVA-SARS-2-ST induces robust humoral and cellular immunity, including high titers of neutralizing antibodies against SARS-CoV-2, protection from disease in animal models, and reduced viral loads after challenge infection[6][7]. The vaccine is being developed as an improved alternative to first-generation MVA-based COVID vaccines.
