Overview

MVA-SIBP is a modified vaccinia Ankara (MVA)–based, live attenuated, non-replicating viral vaccine candidate developed by the Shanghai Institute of Biological Products (a unit of China National Biotec Group) for the prevention of mpox (monkeypox) and smallpox.[1][8] It uses an MVA strain of vaccinia virus as the vector to induce neutralizing antibodies and cellular immune responses against vaccinia and mpox viruses, aiming to provide protection with an improved safety profile compared with replicating vaccinia vaccines.[1] MVA-SIBP is being evaluated in randomized, double-blind, controlled phase 2 trials in the Democratic Republic of the Congo, comparing low- and high-dose regimens to the licensed MVA-BN vaccine.[1][2][4][6][8]
