Overview

MVA tHIVconsvX is a viral vector-based therapeutic and preventive vaccine candidate for HIV-1 infection. It utilizes the Modified Vaccinia virus Ankara (MVA) platform to deliver the tHIVconsvX immunogen, which is a trivalent mosaic of highly conserved regions of the HIV-1 proteome, including Gag, Pol, Vif, and Env. By targeting these conserved regions, the vaccine aims to induce broad and potent T-cell responses (both CD4+ and CD8+) capable of recognizing and eliminating cells infected with diverse HIV-1 strains globally. The vaccine is typically used in heterologous prime-boost regimens, often following a prime with ChAdOx1 tHIVconsvX. Development is led by the University of Oxford in collaboration with clinical partners such as Ospedale San Raffaele, with a focus on pediatric populations and early-treated individuals to achieve long-term viral control or a functional cure.
