MVA-VLP-SUDV is an investigational vaccine candidate developed by GeoVax Labs in collaboration with the University of Texas Medical Branch (UTMB) for the prevention of Sudan ebolavirus (SUDV) infection. The vaccine utilizes GeoVax's proprietary Modified Vaccinia Ankara (MVA) viral vector platform, which is engineered to express the SUDV glycoprotein (GP) and matrix protein (VP40) within the vaccinated individual. These proteins self-assemble into non-infectious virus-like particles (VLPs) that mimic the structure of the native virus, thereby inducing a robust and comprehensive immune response—including both neutralizing antibodies and T-cell activity—without the risk of viral replication. Preclinical studies in guinea pig lethal challenge models have demonstrated that a single dose of MVA-VLP-SUDV provides 100% protection against SUDV. The development program is supported by collaborations with the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID) and the U.S. Army.
