Drug intelligence / Profile preview
MVA-X is a next-generation, single-dose Modified Vaccinia Ankara (MVA)-based vaccine developed by GeoVax in collaboration with Washington State University. It is designed to protect against orthopoxviruses, including mpox (monkeypox virus) and vaccinia virus. The vaccine is engineered to express a peptide-based PD-1 antagonist (specifically the LD10 peptide, an 18-amino-acid peptide derived from the Bacillus thuringiensis Cry1A toxin) directly within the viral genome. This allows for localized, transient checkpoint blockade during early antigen presentation, enhancing CD4+ and CD8+ T-cell responses and providing durable protection with a single dose, matching or exceeding the efficacy of conventional two-dose MVA regimens.
