Overview

MVA.HTI is an investigational therapeutic HIV vaccine candidate that uses a modified vaccinia Ankara (MVA) viral vector to deliver the HIVACAT T-cell immunogen (HTI). The HTI immunogen is a synthetic sequence designed to elicit strong, broad, and polyfunctional CD4 and CD8 T-cell responses against conserved regions of the HIV Gag, Pol, Vif, and Nef proteins—regions preferentially targeted by individuals who naturally control HIV infection[4][6]. MVA.HTI has been studied as part of heterologous prime-boost regimens with other vectors such as ChAdOx1.HTI and DNA.HTI in early antiretroviral therapy (ART)-treated people with HIV[3][4][7]. Clinical trials have shown that these regimens are safe and highly immunogenic but have limited efficacy in preventing viral rebound after ART interruption; however, they may prolong time off ART in some individuals[1][3][5]. The vaccine is being developed primarily for use in combination cure strategies for HIV infection.
