Overview

MVA.tHIVconsv3 is an investigational therapeutic HIV vaccine candidate based on the Modified Vaccinia Ankara (MVA) viral vector platform. It encodes a conserved mosaic immunogen (tHIVconsv3), which is designed to induce robust and broad cytotoxic T lymphocyte (CTL) responses targeting highly conserved regions of the HIV-1 proteome. The goal is to overcome viral escape by focusing immune responses on parts of the virus that are less likely to mutate without compromising viral fitness. This vaccine is being developed primarily for use in people living with HIV, aiming to achieve better control of the virus during or after antiretroviral therapy interruption. It has been evaluated in combination with other vaccines such as ChAdOx1.tHIVconsv1 and tHIVconsv4 in sequential regimens, and has reached Phase 1/2 clinical trials[1][4][6]. The University of Oxford is leading its development.
