MVATG17401 is a recombinant vaccine candidate based on the Modified Vaccinia virus Ankara (MVA) vector engineered to express a fusion protein comprising HIV-1 Gag, Pol, and Nef antigens. It is designed as a therapeutic and/or prophylactic vaccine for HIV infection. The construct was developed by inserting sequences encoding Gag (amino acids 1–512), selected fragments of Pol (amino acids 172–219, 325–383, and 461–519), and Nef (amino acids 66–147 and 182–206) from the Bru/Lai isolate of HIV-1 into the MVA genome using homologous recombination. The vaccine aims to induce robust polyfunctional T-cell responses against HIV antigens. In clinical studies, it has been evaluated in various prime-boost regimens with other immunogens such as lipopeptides or DNA vaccines encoding additional HIV proteins. Preclinical data show that vaccination with this MVA-based vector elicits strong CD4+ and CD8+ T cell responses specific for HIV antigens[2][1].
