Overview

MVC-COV1901 is a protein subunit COVID-19 vaccine developed by Medigen Vaccine Biologics and Dynavax Technologies. It contains a recombinant prefusion spike protein (S-2P) of SARS-CoV-2, produced in Chinese hamster ovary cells, and is adjuvanted with CpG 1018 (a toll-like receptor 9 agonist) and aluminum hydroxide. The mechanism of action involves stimulating the immune system to produce neutralizing antibodies against the SARS-CoV-2 spike protein, thereby providing immunity against COVID-19[1][3][4][5][7][8]. The vaccine has been authorized for emergency use or approved in several countries including Taiwan, Paraguay, Eswatini, and Somaliland[4]. Clinical trials have demonstrated favorable safety and immunogenicity profiles.
