MVX-IVS is a preclinical-stage malaria vaccine candidate and challenge material developed by MalarVx. It utilizes a proprietary technology for the in vitro production of *Plasmodium* sporozoites, the infectious stage of the malaria parasite that is typically transmitted to humans via mosquito bites. Traditionally, whole-organism malaria vaccines (such as PfSPZ) require the labor-intensive harvesting of sporozoites from the salivary glands of infected mosquitoes. MVX-IVS aims to provide a more scalable, standardized, and cost-effective alternative by generating these sporozoites in a controlled laboratory environment. The resulting material can be used as a live-attenuated or inactivated vaccine, or as a standardized challenge agent for Controlled Human Malaria Infection (CHMI) clinical trials to evaluate the efficacy of other vaccines and therapeutics.
