Overview

MW5831 is a long-acting recombinant fibroblast growth factor 21 (FGF21) analog being developed by Shanghai Minwei Biotechnology for the treatment of metabolic disorders, specifically non-alcoholic steatohepatitis (NASH), also known as metabolic dysfunction-associated steatohepatitis (MASH). FGF21 is a metabolic hormone that plays a crucial role in regulating glucose and lipid metabolism, insulin sensitivity, and energy expenditure. MW5831 is designed to overcome the short half-life of endogenous FGF21, providing sustained activation of the FGF receptor complex (primarily FGFR1c in association with the co-receptor beta-Klotho). By mimicking the action of FGF21, MW5831 aims to reduce hepatic fat accumulation, alleviate liver inflammation and fibrosis, and improve systemic metabolic parameters. It is currently in Phase 1 clinical development.
