Overview

MWN109 is a synthetic peptide drug under development as a multi-agonist targeting the glucagon receptor (GCGR), gastric inhibitory polypeptide receptor (GIPR), and glucagon-like peptide 1 receptor (GLP-1R). It acts as an agonist at all three receptors. The drug is being developed by Shanghai Minwei Biotechnology for the treatment of metabolic diseases, primarily type 2 diabetes, obesity, and nonalcoholic steatohepatitis. Its mechanism of action leverages the synergistic effects of activating these incretin and glucagon pathways to improve glycemic control and promote weight loss. MWN109 is currently in Phase 1 clinical trials with both subcutaneous injection and oral tablet formulations being evaluated for safety, tolerability, pharmacokinetics, pharmacodynamics, and immunogenicity in healthy volunteers[1][2][4][5][6].
