Overview
MWN117 is an investigational small interfering RNA (siRNA) therapeutic designed to target inhibin subunit beta E (INHBE) for the treatment of overweight and obesity. Developed by Shanghai Minwei Biotechnology, a subsidiary of Lepu Medical, MWN117 downregulates INHBE gene expression in hepatocytes. INHBE is associated with inhibiting lipolysis, promoting fat storage, and inducing insulin resistance. By silencing this target, MWN117 promotes lipolysis and reduces lipid accumulation. In preclinical models, MWN117 has demonstrated the ability to significantly reduce body fat percentage and visceral fat while simultaneously increasing muscle mass, offering a potential muscle-sparing profile for weight management.
