Drug intelligence / Profile preview
MWX401 is an investigational therapeutic vaccine developed by Shanghai Minwei Biotechnology for the treatment of essential hypertension. It is designed to stimulate the patient's immune system to produce high-affinity antibodies that specifically target and neutralize Angiotensin II (Ang II), a potent vasoconstrictor in the renin-angiotensin-aldosterone system (RAAS). By neutralizing circulating Ang II, the vaccine prevents its binding to angiotensin receptors, thereby inhibiting vasoconstriction and reducing blood pressure. This approach aims to provide sustained blood pressure control over several months with a single administration, potentially offering a long-acting alternative to daily oral antihypertensive medications and addressing the common clinical challenge of poor patient adherence.
